Another One Bites the Dust; Sony Z4’s S810 is Overheating

Sony-Xperia-Z4

In what has devolved from a hot debate to reluctant denial, no pun intended, the Snapdragon 810 saga continues amidst a flurry of consumer dissatisfaction around reports of the chipset overheating. What began with the LG G Flex 2 continued with other flagships like the HTC M9 and the Mi Note Pro, and the latest to join the fray is Sony’s Z4/Z3+.

A while ago, Z4 users began complaining that the device began heating Qualcomm-Snapdragon-810up when gaming or watching HD video, and tests showed that it was reaching an astounding 154°F(67°C). After a short period of silence on the matter, the Japanese OEM has stepped forward and admitted that both the Z4 and Z3+ suffer from the overheating issue, and advised users to turn off their devices multiple times a day, especially when charging. Sony also stated that a software update to fix the problem would be rolling out this summer, but for anyone familiar with the S810 ordeal, that statement is well worn.

Despite the imminent update, the gravity of the situation is not lost on Sony, and unsatisfied users have been advised to head to the nearest service center.

Do you think the update will fix the issue? Will you consider a Snapdragon 810 device after everything that has happened? Let us know in the comments below!

Pebble Time Preorders Starting June 22

pebble-time

When Pebble announced the Pebble Time, we applauded it for taking a different approach to smartwatches by thinking outside the box. If you were amongst those who missed the Kickstarter but were then intrigued by the humble little smartwatch, there’s reason to rejoice as the Pebble Time is making its way to retail.

For the US, Pebble is entering into an exclusive agreement with Best Buy to allow users to pre-order the Pebble Time on June 22nd via bestbuy.com. Pre-orders will then start shipping “soon”. Being a Best Buy exclusive, all orders in the US (even outside of pre-orders) will also be placed through Best Buy.

For the rest of the world, pre-orders can be placed on pebble.com on the same date, June 22nd. Pebble also has email reminders in place, if you would like to be reminded when the day comes.

We can’t wait to try on the latest Pebble. How about you? Does the concept of out-of-the-box smartwatch excite you enough to skip over the more contemporary counterparts?

Microsoft Moonraker Leaked, Is Beyond Concept Phase

microsoftmoonraker2

When we talk about smartwatches, we see most of the big names in the smartphone industry jumping on the bandwagon, trying to gain foothold in an industry that is at a very young stage compared to the rather saturated smartphone market. One noticeable name that has been missing from the party is Microsoft, but it seems, even Microsoft has its own plans.

Enter Microsoft Moonraker.

microsoftmoonraker_1

Dug up by notable leaker @evleaks with the original source being Microsoft design employee Pei-Chi Hsieh’s tumblr (which is now offline, but you can always view a cached copy), evleaks points that the Moonraker was an actual smartwatch, and not just a concept, that was being developed over at Nokia. However, with Nokia’s acquisition by Microsoft, the project was being dropped in favor of the Microsoft Band.

According to images obtained from the blog, the Microsoft Moonraker looks like a rather simplistic smartwatch, coming in 3 different colors with matching straps. The software on the watch is also rather unique, as it adapts the familiar Metro UI from Windows Phone devices and applies a more minimalistic version of it. The watch also featured a bunch of customization options for the watchface, but if we took wild guesses and said that it may not be at par with the artistic freedom Android Wear allows in this aspect, we wouldn’t be too far from the truth. Along with this, the UI gives hints to support for Facebook and email built in, along with features like a step counter and remote camera.

Evleaks also gave the Microsoft Moonraker a model number, LS-50, but the current status of the development and production of the device is unknown.

microsoftmoonraker3

As far as renders and leaks go, Evleaks has been a decent source when you consider the fact that things keep changing from inception of a product to its actual sales.

Nevertheless, if the Microsoft Moonraker was indeed a real device which looked this, it would certainly face a lot of competition from the second generation of Android Wear devices. Microsoft would have to release a rather significant product if it wishes to make an impact in the smartwatch space. Releasing a me-too product might result in a déjà vu à la Zune.

What do you think of the Microsoft Moonraker? If this was indeed a real product, will you think of purchasing it? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
