OnePlus Announces Extended Warranty In India

In an attempt to revamp their customer support system on a wide scale, OnePlus India has announced extended warranty support for Indian users.

OnePlus One as a device, continues to remain a stellar piece of tech at an incredible price. However, the catch with the OnePlus One has been the hardware issues that one may chance upon during use. The matters were made worse by the fact that users have had troubles with OnePlus and its Customer support, with many preferring to return the device than go through the harrowing experience that was presented with repair.

The company is now trying to make amends. On the the India front, OnePlus India has announced an extension of 3 months to the warranty period if service related issues remain pending in the customer support center for more than 15 days. This advantage is available to all OnePlus One smartphones in India, even those purchased from the international website prior to the Amazon.in exclusive Indian launch, and also extends to future OnePlus smartphones. However, in case of disagreements on the devices on which this advantage is applicable, OnePlus will have the final call, which riles up the cynic in us as there may be a fine print somewhere.

Nonetheless, the company is atleast trying to make things right. Earlier in the week, they had also added a toll free number for customer support, and this announcement is an attempt to give relief to cases which faced delays. We hope the company continues on this path to post-sales customer satisfaction if they wish to become a prominent name in the Indian as well as the Global market.

OnePlus 2 Marked for July Release Date

A little over a year ago, OnePlus launched one of the most talked about Android devices around. From the company’s much maligned invite system to the great specs at a low price, the OnePlus One has certainly made waves. A recent rumor from MyDrivers pins a release date of “July” for the next iteration. Current rumors claim the OnePlus 2 will feature a Snapdragon 810, 3GB of RAM, a 1920 x 1080 display, 3300 mAh battery, and a 13MP camera.

 

A OnePlus 2 has been talked about by the company’s CEO in several “Ask me Anything” sessions on reddit. Most recently co-founder Carl Pei replied to “You are named the head of Oneplus, a Chinese startup company aiming at the global mobile market. What do you do?” with:

• Use customer feedback from OnePlus One to improve OnePlus 2

• Prepare more inventory for a smoother launch

• Ramp up support

• Determine future vision

• Develop the team

• Keep working hard

Unfortunately, it seems that the invite system is here to stay for the OnePlus 2 according to an April 20th blog post. The OnePlus 2 is also expected to launch with a slightly higher price tag than the original’s $300 starting price.

Lastly, in  a recent email blast OnePlus started two new contests with some pretty great prizes. There is a photo contest and a video contest; both with a chance to win you an all expense paid trip to their headquarters in Hong Kong.

Another One Bites the Dust; Sony Z4’s S810 is Overheating

In what has devolved from a hot debate to reluctant denial, no pun intended, the Snapdragon 810 saga continues amidst a flurry of consumer dissatisfaction around reports of the chipset overheating. What began with the LG G Flex 2 continued with other flagships like the HTC M9 and the Mi Note Pro, and the latest to join the fray is Sony’s Z4/Z3+.

A while ago, Z4 users began complaining that the device began heating up when gaming or watching HD video, and tests showed that it was reaching an astounding 154°F(67°C). After a short period of silence on the matter, the Japanese OEM has stepped forward and admitted that both the Z4 and Z3+ suffer from the overheating issue, and advised users to turn off their devices multiple times a day, especially when charging. Sony also stated that a software update to fix the problem would be rolling out this summer, but for anyone familiar with the S810 ordeal, that statement is well worn.

Despite the imminent update, the gravity of the situation is not lost on Sony, and unsatisfied users have been advised to head to the nearest service center.

Pebble Time Preorders Starting June 22

When Pebble announced the Pebble Time, we applauded it for taking a different approach to smartwatches by thinking outside the box. If you were amongst those who missed the Kickstarter but were then intrigued by the humble little smartwatch, there’s reason to rejoice as the Pebble Time is making its way to retail.

For the US, Pebble is entering into an exclusive agreement with Best Buy to allow users to pre-order the Pebble Time on June 22nd via bestbuy.com. Pre-orders will then start shipping “soon”. Being a Best Buy exclusive, all orders in the US (even outside of pre-orders) will also be placed through Best Buy.

For the rest of the world, pre-orders can be placed on pebble.com on the same date, June 22nd. Pebble also has email reminders in place, if you would like to be reminded when the day comes.
