Android Wear Update Brings Interactive Watch Faces & Translation Functionality

android wear2

Android Wear’s main focus was to keep users in the loop with “information at a glance”. And with the latest Android Wear update, Google extends the concept through interactive watch faces.

TogetherWatchFace

In simple terms, interactive watch faces are essentially like the widgets that you place on your homescreen. For starters, interactive watch faces reveal more information or activities when the user taps on them. This information or activity could range from displaying various infographic elements for appointments, messages, step counts etc, and even launching a specific app. The official blog post highlights a few interactive watch faces and also points towards a new promotional category in the play store for more such watch faces.

The latest Wear update also has an additional goodie in the form of baked-in support for Google Translate. This allows Android Wear users to have bilingual conversations without having Google Translate on their phone, or even when their device is not nearby (but is connected via WiFi). The update recognizes which language is being spoken and automatically translates text into the other (which can then be displayed to the other party), thereby allowing more natural conversations to take place.

It is small details like these which contribute to the overall experience of owning a smartwatch. Looking at these features individually may not make them stand out on their own, but it is the combined effort of the OS to meaningfully supplement your daily life which makes it the premier choice for future smart wearables.

What do you think about the latest Android Wear update? What would you like an interactive watch face for? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

What Do You Do When You Are out of Data?

mobile data

The internet is now a very important part of our lives, whether we like it or not. This means many of us are tied to our work through our phones, but it also allows us to relax when commuting. Mobile data, however, is a finite resource for many people on many carriers. Some usersrun out quickly, and many opt to never sign up for it in the first place. This is not too bad, as it gives us more time to engage in other rewarding activities. How do you personally see your usage patterns change when you run out of data?
