Huawei Mate 30 Pro goes on sale in Indonesia with preloaded Huawei Mobile Services

All eyes were on Huawei when it took the stage on 19th September this year to unveil the new Huawei Mate 30 and Huawei Mate 30 Pro. The U.S. Government’s trade ban on the company affected its ability to serve its customers, not only in the USA but all around the world except its home country of China. The ban disallowed newer Huawei devices to ship with Google Mobile Services, meaning that users in these regions will not be able to experience Android in the same way as they used to. However, shipping without Google Services was already an ongoing reality in China, and Huawei had adapted itself to thrive in its home country. And because of the trade ban, Huawei now had to adopt the same solutions across regions outside of China. The Huawei Mate 30 Pro is now going on sale in more regions outside of China, like Indonesia, without Google Mobile Services, but using Huawei Mobile Services as the alternative.

Huawei Mobile Services comprises of three main pillars:

  1. Huawei AppGallery: an app distribution platform serving as an alternative to the Google Play Store, making it easy for developers to distribute apps to users, and for users to have a central location for downloading, installing and updating apps.
  2. HMS Core: background services that serve as an alternative to Google Play Services, making it feasible for developers to incorporate functionalities that they have come to expect from an OS.
  3. Huawei Ability Gallery: a service distribution platform for increased app discovery for developers and simplistic content aggregation for end-users.

These three main pillars combine to provide a comprehensive experience to both, end-users and developers, in the form of Huawei Mobile Services (HMS). Huawei has had the foresight to work on these solutions long before the trade ban situation came to exist, so these solutions are in surprisingly functional states already. While all stakeholders would have rested easy if the trade ban situation had resolved, Huawei is confident on its own HMS platform to proceed ahead with further launches. The Huawei Mate 30 Pro is thus launching in markets without GMS, but coming in with HMS as the primary platform.

OPPO Reno3 Pro 5G teaser shows off thinnest dual-mode 5G phone

As 5G adoption is picking up speed around the world, more and more smartphone manufacturers are releasing 5G devices in the market. Currently, manufacturers like Samsung, OnePlus, Huawei, Xiaomi, etc. offer 5G variants of their flagship devices in the market. Since these 5G devices are in the flagship category, they’re pretty much always out of the reach of the average consumer. To make the technology more accessible, Chinese manufacturers like Xiaomi and Realme are about to bring the next-gen of 5G smartphones, like the upcoming Redmi K30 and Realme X50, to the market that will offer dual-mode 5G at a relatively affordable price. Now, Oppo is looking to join the affordable dual-mode 5G club with the launch of the Reno3 Pro later this year.

As per a recent teaser shared by the company’s VP and President of Global Marketing Brian Shen, the upcoming Oppo Reno3 Pro 5G might be the thinnest dual-mode 5G smartphone in its price segment. The device, which will feature an all-glass design, will measure in at just 7.7mm (excluding the camera bump). The teaser image reveals that the Reno3 Pro 5G will have minimal bezels on the top and sides, with no notch and curved edges. We can also tell that the device will have its power button on the right edge, but it isn’t clear where Oppo plans to house the front-facing camera.

At the recent ColorOS 7 launch event in China, Oppo revealed that the Reno3 series will be launched in the country next month. While we don’t have any information on the hardware specifications of the device yet, we expect to learn more in the days leading up to the launch.

Realme X2 Pro bootloader unlock tool and kernel source code are now available

Realme has seen tremendous growth over the last year, thanks to the company’s compelling lineup of budget and mid-range devices. With the launch of the Realme X2 Pro last month, the company forayed into the affordable flagship space, offering top-of-the-line specifications at a relatively affordable price. The company’s first true flagship packs in a Snapdragon 855+ chipset, coupled with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Much like other flagships in the market today, it also features a high refresh rate 90Hz display and an impressive quad-camera array. Now, in a bid to promote third-party development for the device, Realme is allowing bootloader unlocking and has released kernel sources for the Realme X2 Pro.

Realme X2 Pro XDA Forums

The bootloader on the Realme X2 Pro can be unlocked using the unlock tool released by Realme on its forums. It’s worth noting that unlocking the bootloader on your device will replace the Widevine L1 certification with Widevine L3 and the in-display fingerprint sensor will stop working until the bootloader is locked again. Unlocking the bootloader will also factory reset your device and disable OTA updates, but it’s absolutely essential if you wish to root your device.

Realme has also released the kernel sources for the device, which will come in handy for third-party kernel, ROM and recovery development. As of now, there aren’t too many customization resources available for the device, but w expect the development to pick up on our forums in the next few days. If you wish to unlock the bootloader of your Realme X2 Pro, you can click on the source link below and follow the instruction in the post. Make sure you back up all your data before proceeding with the process.

Samsung Internet 10.2 stable brings back the Video Assistant feature

Samsung’s native web browser, called Samsung Internet, is one of the most feature-rich web browsers on Android. The Chromium-based browser includes handy features like an autoplay video blocker, smart anti-tracking, night mode, and more. The browser previously included a feature called Video Assistant, which allowed users to open videos in picture-in-picture mode, zoom in on videos, or change the brightness. This feature was first introduced in version 4.2 of the browser, but sadly it was removed in version 9. Thankfully, the Video Assistant feature made a comeback in version 10.2 beta last month and it’s finally rolling out to the stable version of the browser.

As per a recent post on Reddit, Samsung has now started rolling out version 10.2.00.53 of the Samsung Internet browser. The update brings back the Video Assistant feature, but this time it has a few new tricks up its sleeve. The Video Assistant in the latest update for the browser now gives you the ability to change the tab view, adds menu button customizations, and it even lets you choose which apps open video links. Here’s the official changelog for Samsung Internet v10.2.00.53:

  • Video assistant
  • Allowed apps
  • Customize menu
  • Tab manager renewal
  • Bug fix and stabilization

The latest update for the Samsung Internet browser is already available on the Play Store. You can download it on your device from the link below and in case the update isn’t available for you, you can download the updated APK from APK Mirror by following this link.

Samsung Galaxy S11, S11e, and S11+ Forums are now open

The Galaxy S11 series is set to be the next big flagship release from Samsung. These phones will be officially announced in the next few months, but in the meantime, we’re already seeing leaks. So far, we’ve seen the Galaxy S11+, Galaxy S11, and Galaxy S11e in renders. We’ve also heard about some rumored features. So, while we wait for more, let’s open the forums!

Samsung Galaxy S11 Leaked renders Samsung Galaxy S11e

So what do we know so far? The Galaxy S11 and Galaxy S11+ both have five cameras on the back. They are oriented differently, though, and the S11+ is said to have a larger 108MP camera. The Galaxy S11 features a triple camera setup in a similar look as the Galaxy S11. So all three models will have plenty of cameras, but the S11+ will be a step above.

Another big differentiator will be screen size. The Galaxy S11e is the smallest coming in at 6.3-inches. The Galaxy S11 is next up with a 6.7-inch display. You guessed it, the Galaxy S11+ has the biggest display at 6.9-inches. All of these will be Dynamic AMOLED and we could see 120Hz refresh rate as well. Some of the other features that have been rumored include 25W charging and 8K video recording.

If you’re looking forward to these devices, be sure to hit up the forums linked above! They will surely be very popular devices for 2020.

How to stream Google Stadia games on non-Pixel devices without Google Chrome’s desktop mode [Root]

Google’s cloud gaming service is finally live after months of waiting. To sum up the launch, it’s fair to say that Google overpromised and underdelivered with Stadia. Still, despite the fact that many features are missing at launch, shipment and codes were delayed for many users who pre-ordered, and games aren’t running at the promised 4K60 quality, the service itself seems to work pretty smoothly.

I haven’t had the chance to play games on it yet, but XDA Contributor Max Weinbach is satisfied with Stadia so far. He shared his Buddy Pass with me so I can try Stadia out when I’m traveling next month, but I don’t plan on bringing the Pixel 4 with me because of its poor battery life. Unfortunately, Google requires you have the Pixel 2, Pixel 3, Pixel 3a, or Pixel 4 if you want to stream games directly to your smartphone using the Android app. It’s possible to launch games using Google Chrome in desktop mode, but unfortunately, controllers don’t work this way. Thus, I wanted to see if I could trick the Stadia app to let me play games on any Android device. Fortunately, it’s quite easy to do. Here’s how.

Requirements:

Steps

  1. Open MagiskManager and look for the MagiskHide Props Config module.
  2. Install the module and reboot your phone.
  3. Now, type the following command in ADB shell or your terminal application to enter MagiskHide Props Config’s command-line interface:
    props
  4. Type “5” to add/edit custom props.
  5. Type “n” to add a new custom prop.
  6. Type “ro.product.model” to set this prop.
  7. Type “Pixel 4” to set it as the value for “ro.product.model
  8. Type “y” to accept the prop change.
  9. Type “n” because we don’t want to reboot just yet.
  10. Now, repeat steps #5-8, but this time set “ro.product.manufacturer” to “Google“.
  11. Finally, reboot your phone. Once you boot back up, check that “ro.product.model” and “ro.product.manufacturer” are set to “Pixel 4” and “Google” respectively by entering the following commands:

Now, you should be able to launch games in Stadia on any Android phone! We tested this on the OnePlus 7 Pro as you can see in the featured image shown above. The Stadia app only checks two system properties to determine if your device is eligible to stream games. We’re spoofing just these two properties so the Stadia app will think it’s running on Google’s Pixel 4. It’s a very simple tweak, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it breaks with a future update to the Stadia app. We’ll update this article if the tutorial needs to be adjusted, but we hope that Stadia rolls out to other Android devices soon so that won’t be necessary.
