Online Scams are Increasing. Protect your Sensitive Files with NordLocker

Online scams are increasing, particularly for medical situations. Scammers are attempting to get access to computers while acting as someone involved in the healthcare system. The most vulnerable people to these scams are always going to be our older family members. Now is the time to go through your computer and make sure you do not have risky files floating around that could be accessed by hackers.

Encrypt your Files

Keep your Files Safe with NordLocker. This simple and powerful encryption software will help you easily encrypt your sensitive data. The free software can be downloaded and set up in minutes. Nordlocker will give you a folder that you can drag files into, to have them encrypted. To access your files, you’ll enter your password to gain access to your secure folder.

NordLocker password screen

NordLocker encrypted files

NordLocker supports all file types including documents, photos, videos, archives, and anything else you can think of. You’ll be able to encrypt 2GB of files for free, with an option to unlock unlimited files.

What Files Should you Encrypt?

The best way to determine which files you should keep encrypted is by going through your computer with the mindset that you’re a hacker. What files could you exploit? Look for tax documents, medical records, personal photos, and financial information.

Having an encrypted folder on your computer is another layer of defense from the scammers. These types of scammers call vulnerable people and convince them to install malware that grants them remote access to the target computer. Once they are connected they will search the computer for your most sensitive files. These are the files you need to keep behind this extra layer of protection.

Share your Files Safely

Perhaps a smart way to manage these sensitive files would be using NordLocker’s secure share feature. You can keep your parent’s or grandparent’s tax, medical, and financial documents on your own computer. When they need access to them, you can add them as an authorized user on NordLocker.

Approve other NordLocker users for file access

You can approve other NordLocker users to see and access specific folders that you have approved for them. If someone is not approved, they will not be able to see anything in your NordLocker folder. This is one of the easiest ways to share password-encrypted files, without the risk of them ending up in the wrong hands.

Meizu 17 official renders show off quad rear cameras and ring LED flash

Over the last couple of years, a number of Chinese OEMs have set up shop in other regions around the world. While a few like OnePlus, Xiaomi, Realme, and Huawei have seen immense success in doing so, most others weren’t able to leave a dent in the international markets. Among these is Guangdong-based Meizu, which has been missing from the Indian market since the launch of its last flagship — the Meizu M16th — towards the end of 2018. While the company might not have as strong of a presence in India anymore, it’s still launching new smartphones in its home market.

Last year, the company launched a couple of interesting devices in China, including the Snapdragon 855-powered flagship Meizu 16s and the mid-range Meizu Note 9. It also ran a crowdfunding campaign for an innovative portless smartphone called the Meizu Zero which, unfortunately, didn’t see the light of day. Unperturbed by the setbacks, the company is now prepping up to launch its flagship for 2020 — the Meizu 17. In a recent post on Weibo, the company has revealed that the Meizu 17 will be launched in China on May 8th and has shared an official render of the upcoming device that shows off its design.

Meizu M17

As you can see in the official render above, the Meizu 17 will feature a quad-camera setup on the back arranged in a horizontal array with an LED flash ring right in the center. Over on the front, the device has a flat display with rounded corners, minimal bezels on the sides, and a single hole-punch display for the selfie camera. The render also suggests that the device will feature an in-display fingerprint scanner and support face unlock as well. While the company has revealed no further details about its hardware specifications, we can safely assume that the Meizu 17 will pack in Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 865 chip and, thereby, feature 5G support. We expect Meizu to reveal more about the device in the days leading up to the launch and we’ll update this post as and when we learn more from the company.

Download: Realme devices get updates with April 2020 security patches

Most OEMs have their own customized version of Android, which is itself a compelling reason to maintain separate security bulletins besides Google’s monthly Android security patch updates. However, big-name companies like Samsung usually opt for a mix of monthly, quarterly, and sometimes undefined update cycle, probably because of their vast product portfolio. Interestingly, the newcomer Realme has been able to keep up a decent amount of focus on Android updates despite the fact that their phones run a quite heavy OEM skin (first ColorOS, now Realme UI). The company is now rolling out April 2020 security patches along with some improvements and bug fixes to a number of devices. We’ll be updating this article as more devices are added to the list.

Devices that have received April 2020 security patch updates:

The phones are getting fixes to some bugs along with the April 2020 Google security patches as part of the software version RMX1821EX_11.A.28.

The LG Velvet may support LG’s Dual Screen accessory and Active Pens

Rumors about LG planning to drop its flagship LG G-series lineup in favor of Snapdragon 700-series powered mid-range devices finally materialized earlier this month when the company shared sketches of its upcoming smartphone lineup. Soon thereafter, the company published a teaser video for the new LG Velvet that showed off the phone in its entirety. The teaser also confirmed that the device would feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765 chipset but, other than that, the company hasn’t released any further information about the device. Now, thanks to a recent report from MySmartPrice, we’ve learned that the LG Velvet may support the company’s Dual Screen accessory.

The report cites an NRRA certification with the model number LG LM-G905N, which happens to be a “Portable screen cover”. The model number in the certification listing falls in line with the rumored model number of the LG Velvet — LG-G900N — which leads us to believe that the portable screen cover could be the dual-screen accessory for the LG Velvet. However, unlike the LG V60, LG might not ship the Dual Screen accessory with the device, and users might have to purchase it separately.

Additionally, a report from renowned Korean publication ETNews reveals that the upcoming LG device will also include active pen support. The report claims that LG has installed a Wacom Active Electrostatic (AES) driver IC on a Dual Screen accessor and the LG Velvet, which will offer active pen support on both the device and the secondary display. The feature will allegedly be compatible with all pens that make use of Wacom’s AES technology, giving users the freedom to purchase the pen of their choice. On top of that, the LG Velvet will also come equipped with a handwriting app called ‘Nebo’ that will help users convert their handwriting, various shapes, and formulas to a digital format.
