Energy Notch battery indicator adds support for the OnePlus 6/7/7T, POCO F1, Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite 5G, Redmi Note 7/7S, and the Motorola One Power

Android is all about customization, and the aftermarket development community is the driving force behind that liberty. The developers often come up with creative ideas to re-use an existing design component in a completely different way than the one it is intended for. Take the example of Energy Notch by XDA Recognized Developer jagan2 – a cool app that puts the display-notch of the OnePlus 6T to use by turning the space around the notch into an animated battery indicator.

Energy Notch in action

Soon after releasing the initial version of the app, the developer has started collecting feedback from the owners of several other smartphones having notched display panels in order to expand the list of supported devices. The latest version of Energy Ring, tagged as EN_1.2, now supports the OnePlus 6, OnePlus 7, and the OnePlus 7T. Besides OnePlus, the app is now fully compatible with a bunch of phones from different OEMs, namely the Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite 5G (and its Chinese variant, the Mi 10 Lite Zoom/Mi 10 Youth Edition 5G), the Redmi Note 7/Note 7S, the Poco F1, and the Motorola One Power. In case you can’t find your phone in the list, just drop a private message to the developer asking to add support for the particular device.

The device-specific discussion threads are listed below.

There are a few extra features for paid users, but the base version does offer enough customization options such as configuring the width, changing colors based on battery level, defining the direction of depletion, and many more. The app consumes a very little CPU horsepower, thus users shouldn’t worry about battery draining.

Netflix tests ₹349 Mobile+ plan with PC support and HD streaming

In a bid to capture the ever-growing smartphone user base in India, Netflix launched a new ₹199 mobile-only plan back in July last year. The plan offered users access to the platform’s content in SD resolution, with no additional perks like multi-device streaming or PC/TV support. While the plan is great to attract first time users, it isn’t as lucrative for someone who already has access to a multitude of cheap streaming services, especially ones that offer HD playback and PC/TV support. This is why Netflix is now testing a new Mobile+ plan in the country that offers both these perks.

According to a recent report from AndroidPure, Netflix’s new Mobile+ plan is priced at ₹349 (~$4.7), and it offers HD streaming capabilities. The plan also gives users access to Netflix on their PC, Mac or Chromebook, however, it doesn’t include support for smart TVs or multi-device streaming. The new plan is currently being tested with a small number of users, and it will be rolled out to more users if the platform receives a positive response.

In a statement regarding the matter, a Netflix representative was quoted saying,” We launched the Mobile plan in India to make it easier for anyone with a smartphone to enjoy Netflix. We want to see if members like the added choice [the Mobile+ plan] brings. We will only roll it out long-term if they do.”

It’s also worth noting that if the new Mobile+ plan is rolled out for all users, it might replace Netflix’s current ₹499 “Basic” plan. As Gadgets360 points out, the Basic plan seems to be hidden for those users who have access to the new plan. For the unaware, Netflix’s Basic plan offers support streaming in SD resolution on all devices with a one device limit. This makes the new Mobile+ plan a better deal, as long as you don’t watch Netflix on a smart TV.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra leaked specs reveal 108MP camera, low-latency S Pen, and 6.9″ QHD 120Hz display

At the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked launch event early next month, Samsung is expected to unveil 5 new devices. Even though the company hasn’t revealed exactly which devices will be launched at the event, recent leaks and rumors suggest that Samsung will, most likely, launch the Galaxy Note 20 series at the event. As part of the series, the company is expected to launch two devices — the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra — which we’ve already seen in several leaks over the last few weeks. Thanks to the leaks, we’ve already got a good look at the design of the upcoming devices. And now, we finally have some interesting details about the hardware specifications of the flagship Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.

Renowned leakster Roland Quandt (@rqandt) has managed to procure official marketing material for the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, which highlights key details about the upcoming flagship. As per a recent post on WinFuture, the marketing material reveals that the device will feature a revised 108MP primary camera with f/1.8 aperture and 0.8micron sensor pixels. While the sensor is expected to include dual-pixel autofocus technology, Samsung has added a dedicated laser-autofocus module on the device for even faster focusing.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 ultra

Additionally, the device will feature two 12MP sensors on the back, one of which features a periscope lens with 5x optical zoom with f/3.0 aperture and 1.0micron pixels. The remaining 12MP module features an ultra-wide-angle lens with an f/2.2 aperture and 1.4micron pixel size. Over on the front, the device will feature a 10MP sensor with dual-pixel autofocus, f/2.2 aperture, and 1.22micron pixel size. The report further reveals that the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra will opt for 50x space zoom, instead of the 100x space zoom found on the Galaxy S20 Ultra.

Along with information about the cameras on the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, the report reveals that the device will feature a 6.9-inch QHD dynamic AMOLED display with a resolution of 3200 x 1440 pixels and 19.3:9 aspect ratio. As previous rumors suggested, the device will feature a 120Hz high refresh rate panel with dynamic control to automatically adjust the refresh rate depending on what you’re doing on the device. The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra will also be the first device to feature Corning’s Gorilla Glass 7.

The report further adds that the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra will feature a “Real Feel” S Pen with a latency of just 9ms to make writing or drawing as realistic as possible, it will be the first smartphone with Microsoft xCloud optimizations and Xbox Game Pass for a better cloud gaming experience, and that it will feature support for the new Wireless-DeX mode. Additional details include a USB 3.2 Type-C port, NFC support, Bluetooth 5.x, WiFi 6, and dual GPS support. The device will also pack in AKG-optimized speakers and it will feature an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.

As far as the chipset is concerned, Samsung will ship the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra with its own flagship Exynos 990 SoC and the company won’t switch to a Snapdragon chip for the European region. The SoC will be accompanied by 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB UFS 3.1 storage. The device will include a slightly larger 4,500mAh battery with fast charging and wireless charging support. And lastly, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra will include a dual SIM card tray with eSIM support.

Developer ports One UI 2.1 and Galaxy S20 features to several Samsung Galaxy phones with the Exynos 7870

Back in April 2020, Samsung delivered the Android 10 update to the Galaxy J6 sans the One UI 2.1-specific software features. The phone is powered by the Exynos 7870 chipset, a 14nm octa-core SoC from 2016 that also powers several mid-range Samsung Galaxy phones. Many of those Exynos 7870-equipped devices are excluded from getting the official Android 10 update from Samsung, although they are theoretically capable of running it. To fill the void, XDA Recognized Developer Astrako has now compiled a generic Android 10 ROM containing a bunch of One UI 2.1 features from the Galaxy S20 series for the Exynos 7870 platform.

Dubbed as H-ROM, the GSI-esque ROM is compatible with seven legacy Exynos 7870-powered Samsung smartphones, which includes the Galaxy A3 (2017) and different variants of the Galaxy J5/J6/J7. The base of the ROM is taken from the Galaxy S20 5G, while the developer ships a modified CSC from the Galaxy S10 that enables features like native call recording. The whole package is dependent on the unofficial Project Treble implementation for these devices by the same developer.

Featuring July 2020 Android security patches, the latest version of H-ROM is stable enough to be a daily driver. There are some known glitches with the camera, though, and the built-in H-Kernel has SELinux in permissive mode, which is a major security issue. In case you want root access, it would be better to opt for the Canary version of Magisk. Flashing Magisk stable on top of the current build of this ROM gives you a bootloop, so avoid that for now.

Download H-ROM

Once you successfully Treble-ize your device and install H-Vendor, you have to completely wipe it before flashing the H-ROM ZIP. There is no device-specific build, as the unified installer is smart enough to detect the model and apply appropriate modules. The base variant of H-ROM is optimized for devices with a smaller system partition. A separate Samsung stock app package is provided by the developer for sideloading.

LG Velvet goes on sale in the U.S. this week for $599

The LG Velvet was announced in May and it’s one of the few LG devices that has a pretty good buzz around it. The company massively changed up the design and put more care into the small details, which is something that has been missing in the past. As mentioned last month, the LG Velvet is coming to North America, starting with the U.S. this week.

LG has launched the Velvet in South Korea and a few European countries so far, but starting tomorrow (July 22) it will be available in the U.S. as well. Download the OnePlus Nord wallpapers and live wallpapers

The OnePlus Nord was finally announced today following months of anticipation and guesswork from the fans. Even though the OnePlus Nord can easily be discerned from the flagships launched earlier this year, the company has retained enviable features such as the 90Hz AMOLED display with an in-display fingerprint scanner, 30W fast Warp Charge technology, 5G connectivity, and up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Just like every other OnePlus device, the Nord also comes with its own distinctive wallpapers, and we have extracted them so that you can apply them on any other phone.

OnePlus Nord Forums

The wallpapers pre-installed on the Nord include four live wallpapers and eight static wallpapers. Out of the eight still wallpapers, four are the unanimated versions of the live wallpapers while the remaining four recur from previous OnePlus smartphones. You can grab the OnePlus Nord’s still wallpapers from the link below and apply them on your phone.

Download the OnePlus Nord still wallpapers

Besides the still wallpapers, we have also extracted the four live wallpapers from the OnePlus Nord named “Live Glacier,” “Live Sand,” “Live Snow,” and “Live Stone.” Each of these live wallpapers has two versions — one rendered at 60fps and the other one at 90fps — with a resolution of 2400×1080. You can set these videos as live wallpapers on any Android phone or tablet using an app that lets you do that.

For the desired experience, however, it is advised that you download the OPWallpaperResources application and sideload the app on your OnePlus phone running at least OxygenOS 10. It is worth noting that by doing so, the live wallpapers that were pre-installed on your device will be overwritten by the live wallpapers from Nord.
