The new Moto G Play, Moto G Power and Moto G Stylus are finally here

After weeks of leaks and rumors, Motorola has finally unveiled its Moto G lineup for 2021. As reported in the leaks, the lineup includes three new devices — the Moto G Play, Moto G Power, and Moto G Stylus. Here’s everything you need to know about the latest budget-friendly devices from Motorola:

Moto G Play

The Moto G Play is the cheapest of the three new Motorola devices, and it packs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 460 SoC. The device features a square camera module on the back that houses a dual-camera setup and an LED flash. Right underneath that is a fingerprint sensor with the Motorola logo. The device features a 6.5-inch HD+ LCD screen with a waterdrop-style notch over on the front, which has chunky bezels all around.

Moto G Play

The Snapdragon 460 chipset on the device is accompanied by 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. In the camera department, the device features a 13MP primary camera, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 5MP selfie shooter. Powering the device is a 5,000mAh battery that supports 10W charging. On the software front, the Moto G Play runs a near-stock version of Android 10 with a couple of useful additions.

Moto G Power

The Moto G Power is also a budget-friendly device that features Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 662 chip. It features a design similar to the new Moto G Play, with a square camera module on the back with the Motorola logo underneath. However, the camera module on the device is larger, owing to the triple-camera setup, and it doesn’t feature a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. Instead, the fingerprint scanner on the device is integrated within the power button that can be found on the right edge.

Moto G Power 2021

The device doesn’t have a notched display either, with Motorola opting for a more premium hole-punch display to justify its higher price. As seen in previous leaks, the device has a 6.55-inch HD+ panel with a resolution of 1600 x 720 pixels, a 48MP+2MP+2MP triple camera setup on the back, and an 8MP selfie camera. Much like the Moto G Play, the device features a large 5,000mAh battery that supports slightly faster 15W fast charging. The Moto G Power also runs Motorola’s software skin based on Android 10. The device will be available in a single RAM/storage variant, featuring 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

Moto G Stylus

Out of the three new devices, the Moto G Stylus offers the most premium hardware. It’s powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 678 SoC, features a larger 6.8-inch FHD+ hole-punch display, 4GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. The device features an improved built-in stylus that offers pinpoint control, which will let you edit photos, take notes, sketch artwork, or markup screenshots with ease.

Moto G Stylus 2021

The Moto G Stylus doesn’t share the same design as the other two devices, and it features a rectangular camera module in the top right corner of the back panel. The camera module packs a quad-camera setup with a 48MP primary camera, an 8MP wide-angle camera, a 2MP macro camera, and a 2MP depth sensor. Over on the front, the device has a 16MP selfie camera. Although the Moto G Stylus is better than the other two devices on almost all fronts, it packs a much smaller 4,000mAh battery that supports 10W charging. As with the other two devices, the Moto G Stylus runs the company’s custom Android skin based on Android 10.

Pricing & Availability

The all-new Moto G lineup for 2021 is priced as follows:

All three devices will go on sale starting from January 14th, and you’ll be able to pick up an unlocked unit from Amazon and BestBuy. The devices will be supported by all major US carriers. Motorola has also revealed that it will offer one major Android OS upgrade for all three devices and security updates for 2 years.

Redmi 9T

redmi 9T

The Redmi 9T packs the Snapdragon 662, 4GB of RAM, and a full HD 60Hz display with a waterdrop notch. It packs a triple camera system, comprised of a 48MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide, and a 2MP macro camera. There is also a 2MP depth sensor. It starts at €159 for the base 64GB of storage variant, and €179 to double that storage and upgrade from UFS 2.1 to UFS 2.2. You get a charger in the box (crazy, right?), and though it’s a 22.5W charger, the device itself only supports 18W charging. There’s also an IR blaster that you can use for controlling devices remotely, and there’s a headphone jack too. It charges the massive 6,000 mAh battery via USB-C and supports reverse wired charging.

Redmi Note 9T

Redmi Note 9T

The Redmi Note 9T is the more powerful of these two devices, launching with the MediaTek Dimensity 800U, and it supports 5G. You get nearly all of the same storage options as the Redmi 9T — so 4GB+64GB and 4GB+128GB — along with a third storage option which has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The camera system looks nearly identical as well, though it actually lacks a 2MP depth sensor. Just like the Redmi 9T as well, you get a 22.5W charger in the box, even though the device itself can only charge at 18W. The battery is smaller at 5,000 mAh. Finally, the front-facing camera is a left hole punch rather than a waterdrop notch in the center of the screen. There is both a headphone jack and an IR blaster, along with dual speakers too. The Redmi Note 9T costs €229 for the 4GB RAM, 64GB storage variant, and doubling up the storage to 128GB costs €269. For early-bird sales, the prices go down by another €20.

Samsung begins pre-reservations for Galaxy S21 series in India

Samsung is all set to start 2021 with a bang with the upcoming Galaxy S21 series. The Galaxy Unpacked event will take place on January 14, where we’re expecting the launch of at least three new smartphones, new Galaxy Buds Pro truly wireless earbuds, a Bluetooth tracker called the Galaxy Smart Tag, and a new color of the Galaxy Active 2. Now, as we inch closer to the official launch, Samsung India has opened up pre-registration for the Galaxy S21 series.

Pre-registrations for the Galaxy S21 series are live on Samsung India’s website and Samsung Shop App. Interested users can pre-register their interest in the smartphone by paying a token amount of ₹2,000. This will give users a Next Galaxy VIP Pass, which in turn will give them a ₹2,000 discount when they pre-order the device after it gets launched. Samsung is also throwing in a free “Smart clear cover” worth ₹3,849 as a pre-registration incentive. It isn’t immediately clear which case this is, as the press release did not further elaborate.

Pre-registrations are open from today till the launch day. Users have the option to cancel the VIP Pass voucher at any time and avail full refund. The registration process is pretty straightforward: users are required to provide their basic contact details and PIN code, followed by the payment of ₹2,000 at checkout. After successful registration, the user will receive the VIP Pass via email. If you were looking to get yourself either of the three new upcoming devices, this pre-registration in the run-up to the launch and pre-order and subsequent sale gives you a free case. Samsung may have some other pre-order offers too, so if the case is not as enticing to you, you could try your luck in waiting until the launch to know more about the pre-order offers.

Samsung Galaxy S20 / S21+/ S21 Ultra XDA Forums

As a refresher, the Galaxy S21 series will consist of three smartphones, just like the last year. There will be a standard Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21 Plus, and Galaxy S21 Ultra. All three devices will feature a 120Hz AMOLED display, multi-camera setup on the back, Exynos 2100 or Snapdragon 888 chipset, ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner, IP68 rating, and 25W USB PD fast charging support. The phones will run the latest One UI 3.1 based on Andriod 11 and will support UWB technology, Bluetooth 5.1, and USB 3.2.

The Unpacked event will take place on Thursday, January 14th at 10:00 AM ET (8:30 PM IST) and will be live-streamed on Samsung’s website.
