Is There Any Downside to Taking the 5.0.1 OTA?

So my 64GB GRAY Nexus 6 arrived on 5.0 and it wants to update to 5.0.1. I enabled USB debugging and OEM unlock and I am going to unlock it then make a nandroid of 5.0. Not sure why I am doing that but I thought I would.



Is there any reason to upgrade to 5.0.1 before flashing to 5.1? I thought I would let the OTA happen, then make another nandroid. Then flash to 5.1. Then make another nandroid.

[Q] OTA Confusion

If the Nexus 6 was purchased through Google Play Store, will the 5.1 OTA come directly from Google? If purchased through Motorola will the 5.1 OTA come from Motorola? And does the wireless carrier influence the 5.1 OTA source? For instance, if the Nexus 6 was purchased through Google Play Store and is using Verizon service, does the 5.1 OTA come from Verizon or Google? And if the 5.1 OTA comes from Verizon (Nexus 6 purchased from Verizon), is the update different than what would come directly from Google? All very confusing.

Expand the storage

Hi,

I bought a 16gb Nexus 9, 2 weeks ago and it's already full.

What's the best solution to expand the storage. I mean a storage where I can install more apps and data.

I read about USB thumb drives but it was always related to photos and videos. Can I install more apps on a USB thumb drive?

Else, can I replace the internal 16gb storage by a 32gb (or more?) storage?

[Q] How to mount internal SD as UMS for file recovery?

I'm trying to recover some important photos that were deleted by mistake on a friend's Galaxy Note 10.1 (N8013) that is running JB. I installed the newest TWRP because I saw some others say they were able to mount the internal SD as UMS. If I disable MTP in TWRP the file recovery applications see nothing. Is there another way to go about this? I've seen someone else saying he was able to do it using dd to do a low level backup of the internal SD, but details are scarce. I don't want to load a different ROM since that would probably wipe out everything I am trying to recover.

[Q] Is the Kindle Fire HDX worth the hassle?

My nexus 7 - 2013 just became an expensive paperweight, seems like the internal storage or motherboards went Kaput. I am looking for a replacement and the specs of the Kindle Fire HDX 7 are very impressive, specially buying the 64 GB version, I couldn't find any device with better specs for the price. However, the drawback seems to me all the hassle to try to change the tablet to a truly android experience; people are writing posts about accomplishing simple things on other tablets like using a different launcher, using Netflix, casting to Chromecast, using the Google Play store, side loading apps, etc. Not to mention all the other posts with people bricking their devices after trying to accomplish these tasks. So my question is: Is all that hassle worth it? Is the Kindle really that good that all the hassle is worth it? Thank you very much in advanced for any responses.
