The Steam app for Android is hardly the most up-to-date of things: it’s dated in its design and clunky in its navigation, and the value it adds to consumers is ultimately affected by these two things. Whilst the desktop client makes browsing for new games rather easy, the Android app was just not there. Luckily, things get better all the time.
The newest Steam app is starting to roll out, and it brings a new paint coat as well as general improvements to the UX. The first thing you’ll notice is that it has Material Design (at least partially), and that many settings have been simplified. Images are now higher-resolution and, despite the new look, the app is more optimized for older devices. You will notice said optimization in its navigation, as changing screens is faster.
There are many other changes regarding private messaging and the way the application functions in general. Below you can find the changelog. While this might not make Steam the perfect mobile client just yet, it is definitely is a step in the right direction.

PC Mag’s Sascha Segan has revealed today that the mysterious Axon Phone that has been making the news recently is owned by none other than ZTE, the U.S.’s 4th largest phone manufacturer. The upcoming device started making news yesterday after news sources started receiving invites to an event in New York City on July 14th.
The devices specs have yet to be revealed, however for now we do know that the phone will be available in phthalo blue, ion gold and chromium silver, will feature a dual-lens camera allowing you to capture footage in 4K, a quick auto focus and the ability to refocus photos after you have taken them or “blur backgrounds for a beautiful bokeh effect.” The device also features high-fidelity sound playback, twin microphones and noise suppression technology aimed at eliminating background noise such as wind when making calls. 4GB of RAM is included and whilst we wait on battery capacity, the battery is cited as being large with the processor being described as lightning-fast.
The UI sounds dubious, however without being able to test it just yet we can’t say for sure. Axon/ZTE claim that their UI uses a “super-simplified Android interface”, “full-bleed images” and “large, elegant type” which they state gives a high-end look and feel. But I can’t help but think this sounds awfully like kids mode.
Also located on the Axon website is a competition to win either $10,000 or an Axon phone by suggesting a feature to be included (their suggestions include: built-in juicer, bubble bath dispenser and an x-ray camera) the suggestion that receives the most votes will be the winner.

The One M9 has received a few minor software updates since it was released in April mostly to attempt to improve the camera quality, and with some success. One update that unfortunately hasn’t yet made its way to HTC’s 2015 flagship is its eagerly awaited increase to Android 5.1 and in this regard it is a little behind main rivals like the Samsung Galaxy S6 and LG G4.
However, where manufacturers drag their heels developers are usually quick to provide, and today brings news of the first custom ROM based on the latest core version of Android, beating HTC themselves to the finishing posts. LlabtooFeR has released Maximus HD 5.0, based from the recently leaked 2.7.401.1 firmware, which not only provides a peek at what can be expected from the impending official update, but also packs extra features of its own.
You’ll need to be rooted and S-Off to benefit from this update, and a clean flash is necessary for the ROM’s installation, which of course involves a full device wipe. Once you’re up and running though, a few unique features are available to you. A new display color control setting consisting of a simple Cool > Warm slider, allows you to increase the colour saturation if you prefer a more AMOLED-like experience. Multi-user support is also now present despite being included in previous official versions of Android, and the volume panel has expanded out to include a few useful quick controls for Do Not Disturb functions. Along with those features there are a host of smaller fixes and optimizations that come with the 5.1 update, and the welcomed addition of custom ROM stalwarts like zipaligning, deodexing and init.d support. LlabtooFeR also claims to have improved performance, battery life and camera quality, which if true, makes this a compelling option over the now surely imminent official update.

Responding to claims that “OnePlus is revealing the OnePlus 2 in installments in order to get more press coverage,” the company has stated that “We have to stay loud and relevant to continue going toe-to-toe with the big guys.” This is amongst other reasons as to why they will not be quiet any time soon.
