Samsung rolls out stable One UI 3.0 update with Android 11 to the Galaxy S10 Lite

Samsung’s Android 11 update train is going at full steam. The Korean OEM has already updated their current mainstream flagship phones with the latest Android version in most regions and has now shifted its focus to the remaining devices. Just a day ago, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G received a stable Android 11 OTA with One UI 3.0. Now it appears the Galaxy S10 Lite is also getting the sweet treat of Android 11 across the globe.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite XDA Forums

The One UI 3.0 update for the Galaxy S10 Lite is currently available for both the global (model number SM-G770F) and the US (model number SM-G770U1) variants. Coming in at over 2GB in size, the new build carries version number G770FXXU3DTL1/G770U1UEU2CTL3 and also packs the December 2020 security patches. It is worth mentioning that Samsung has not incremented the bootloader version, keeping the possibility open to revert back to Android 10 though manual flashing, though we would still advise caution.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite Android 11 OTA 1st Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite Android 11 OTA 2nd

As expected, the new firmware for the Galaxy S10 Lite brings along all the exciting changes users have been waiting for. On top of the usual Android 11 improvements, the update also packs a ton of One‌ UI 3.0-specific additions such as redesigned UI elements and colors, an enhanced Quick panel, an improved Dynamic lock screen, updated Samsung apps, and so on.

At this time, the update appears to be rolling out in the USA, Russia, Spain, UAE, Panama, and India. However, a full-fledged global rollout shouldn’t be too far away and Galaxy S10 Lite users in other regions can look forward to receiving the update in the coming weeks or so. Tools like Frija or Samloader can be handy in case you want to download the updated firmware packages right away from the Samsung server.

To check whether your Samsung phone will receive the Android 11 update, you can refer to this list.

Here’s everything we know about the Samsung Galaxy S21 series, launching in January

Samsung’s flagship smartphones for 2020 were some of the best Android smartphones this year, and we have high hopes for the company’s upcoming Galaxy S21 series. As per recent reports, the company will unveil the Galaxy S21 series in January next year, a few weeks before its usual Galaxy S series launch schedule. Ahead of the official reveal, we’ve seen several leaks and rumors about the upcoming devices, giving us a good look at their design and specifications. In case you’ve not been keeping up with our coverage of the devices, here’s everything we know about the Samsung Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21 Plus, and Galaxy S21 Ultra so far.

Samsung Galaxy S21 series: Release Date and Announcement Date

Samsung has inadvertently confirmed that the Galaxy S21 series will be unveiled on January 14th and that the devices are expected to go on sale in India on January 29th. Global retail availability is expected around January 22, 2021.

Samsung Galaxy S21 series: Ultra, Plus, and Regular variants

Much like the previous generation, the Galaxy S20, the Galaxy S21 series will also have three devices in it at launch. There will be the regular Galaxy S21, followed by the Galaxy S21 Plus, and topping off with the premium flagship Galaxy S21 Ultra.

If you want an updated flagship from Samsung, the regular variant is the choice for you, as it will feature an updated SoC with a relatively modest package. It’s going to be the most accessible way to get a new Galaxy 2021 flagship in the first half of the year without abusing your wallet.

The Galaxy S21 Plus will be the middle-child in the lineup, and the option that would make sense for most people. It will pack in most of the needed features at a relatively-not-obscene price tag, giving users the sweet medium.

The Galaxy S21 Ultra will obviously be the overkill option. It would make sense for users who want the absolute best within conventional smartphone realms, and do not intend to flinch from spending top dollar for it. It will be the most premium and feature packed device from the South Korean company (outside of foldables and luxury special editions), so it’s the phone to get for those looking to make a statement while still holding something recognizable as a smartphone.

Design

Over the last few weeks, we’ve seen plenty of leaked CAD renders, live images, and even promotional videos of the Galaxy S21 series. These leaks gave us a good look at the device’s design.

Galaxy S21 (Regular)

For the regular Galaxy S21, the design is almost the same as the Galaxy S20. The only major differences between the two devices are the new camera island, which flows over the device’s left edge and blends seamlessly with the frame, and the flat display. This new camera module design is consistent across the Galaxy S21 lineup, and it comes in a couple of different finishes, which depends on the base colorway of the device.

Speaking of colors, leaked official press renders of the Galaxy S21 suggest that Samsung will be offering the device in four color variants — Phantom Violet Phantom Gray, Phantom White, and Phantom Pink. Out of these, the Phantom Violet and Phantom Pink colorways will feature a copper-colored frame and camera module, the Phantom Black colorway will feature a black frame and camera module, and the Phantom White colorway will have a silver frame and camera module. All variants of the Galaxy S21 will have a plastic back, much like the Galaxy Note 20 from earlier this year.

Galaxy S21 Plus

In terms of design, the Galaxy S21 Plus won’t differ much from the base variant. It will feature the same design elements, including the new camera module, but it will have a slightly larger footprint. However, the device will differ from the regular Galaxy S21 in terms of material choice.

Samsung will offer a glass back on the Galaxy S21 Plus, unlike the glasstic back on the base variant. Additionally, Samsung won’t offer as many color variants for the Galaxy S21 Plus, and it will only be available in Phantom Silver, Phantom Black, and Phantom Violet at launch.

Galaxy S21 Ultra

The top-of-the-line Galaxy S21 Ultra will also feature a similar camera island design, but it will be much larger than the camera island on the other two variants. This is due to the fact that it will include a total of 4 camera sensors. Unlike the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21 Plus, the Galaxy S21 Ultra will feature a curved display.

As with the Galaxy S21 Plus, the Galaxy S21 Ultra will feature a premium glass back. But the device will only come in two color variants —Phantom Black and Phantom Silver.

These are the expected specifications for the Samsung Galaxy S21 series. Note that these are not final specifications, and are based on leaks and reasonable guesstimates. We’ll keep them updated, but know that these may change by the time the phones are actually released.

The baseline for performance is set, with all three of the flagships in this series coming in with the top-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 in the USA and select other regions, and with the Exynos 2100 internationally. There should be plenty of RAM and storage onboard, though microsd card expansion is not yet known. The rear and front camera setup remains the same on the regular and Plus variant, while the Ultra gets a complete overhaul. Between the regular and Plus variant, the differentiating factor would be the slightly larger size and the difference in plastic back and glass back.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra camera module leaked

The camera setup on the Galaxy S21 Ultra is expected to be significantly better, with a second-gen 108MP primary camera, the same 12MP wide-angle camera as the other two variants, a 3x telephoto sensor, and a 10x optical “super” telephoto sensor. The new telephoto sensors will feature 130% larger pixels and dual-pixel autofocus, and with the 10x telephoto sensor, Samsung will be reviving its 100x Space Zoom feature. The top of the line model also gets extras like IP68 water resistance and S Pen support.

Samsung Galaxy S21 series: Price

As for pricing, reports suggest that the Galaxy S21 will start at €849 for the 128GB storage variant and €899 for the 256GB storage variant, €1,049/ €1,099 for the Galaxy S21 Plus 128GB/256GB, and the Galaxy S21 Ultra will cost €1,349/€1,399/€1,529 for the 128GB/256GB/512GB variant respectively. The pricing for the base model is lower than what the Galaxy S20 launched within Europe, but the higher-end model is more expensive than the Galaxy S20 Ultra possibly because of the improved camera hardware and S Pen support. In all, there’s a wider price bracket to cover with the coming flagship series.

Samsung Galaxy S21 / Galaxy S21 Plus / Galaxy S21 Ultra XDA Forums

Reports also suggest that Samsung might not offer a charger with the Galaxy S21 series in some regions. While we haven’t seen much information about the new software features that may launch with the devices, we’ve learned that Samsung may let users unlock the Galaxy S21 series devices with Bixby Voice and that the devices could come with the Google Discover feed on the minus one screen.

S Pen support on the Galaxy S series and the end of the Galaxy Note?

Historically, the S Pen had been the defining feature of the Samsung Galaxy Note series, clearly differentiating the product lineup towards productivity-focused pro-consumers. Some of Samsung’s tablets have come with support for S Pen, but by and large, the S Pen has been part of the Note identity.

Samsung Galaxy S Pen

But with the rise of foldables as the new forte for productivity-focused pro-consumers, and with the S-series also closing the gap in terms of other features, there’s little left for the Note and its own identity. Many rumors suggested that the Note lineup is dead. But Samsung had to come clean and reaffirm the existence of the Note series for another year, with the rider that some signature Note features will make their way on to other devices. This is the signal needed to reaffirm all rumors of the S Pen support coming over to the S series with the Galaxy S21 Ultra.

With the Galaxy S21 Ultra, the S Pen will reportedly be sold separately and stored separately. There’s no housing cavity within the device to store the stylus. Instead, Samsung will offer a couple of case options that will make it easier to store the stylus when not in use and charge it up as well.

The rest of the three phones, the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21 Plus, have not been rumored to come with S Pen support, indicating that Samsung will lock the feature to the top of the line model only. Note that this is not a software-lock, but a limitation on hardware as the needed digitizer components will not be present on the other two phones.

Will there be a Galaxy S21 FE or Galaxy S21 Mini?

The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE was a runaway hit in a year of widespread economic recession and rising smartphone pricing, thanks to its relatively affordable price tag for a pseudo-flagship. There’s good reason to believe Samsung is considering a successor simply because the predecessor was pretty successful, though there have been no leaks or rumors to this end just yet. If a Galaxy S21 FE comes into existence, it will be in the second half of the year.

As for the Galaxy S21 Mini, this is a form factor that many would hope Samsung takes considering the positive reception to the iPhone 12 Mini. Samsung has done “mini” flagships before, like the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini, Galaxy S4 Mini, and Galaxy S5 Mini, so a “mini” flagship would not be out of place for the S series at all. There’s no indication that Samsung is indeed working towards a Galaxy S21 Mini. But if they do, it should hopefully follow along with the same principles as Apple followed for its mini: all of the flagship in just a smaller size. Samsung has three devices in its Galaxy S21 lineup, which then begs the question: which of the three forms the base for expectations for the Galaxy S21 Mini? If the South Korean company uses the regular variant as the base, then the resultant phone would be similar in concept to early A-series and M-series smartphones, with just a flagship processor. And we aren’t sure if that alone would be enough reason to convince everyone looking for a small-footprint device, especially with Exynos 2100 at the helm.

Genshin Impact 1.2 update is arriving just in time for Christmas

There is no doubt that Genshin Impact is currently one of the best games that you can play on your smartphone. Apart from offering some of the best visuals, it also comes with one of the most immersive experiences one would expect from an RPG title. After releasing its first major update in November, game developer miHoYo is all set to release a new update this month. Genshin Impact 1.2 update will be rolling out December 23 at 06:00 (GMT+8). The new update will be available for users on iOS, Android, PC, and PS4 at the same time. It is said to be substantially bigger than the previous update and will include new characters, a new snowy region, new storylines, and a fair amount of balancing changes.

What’s New?

One of the biggest additions to the game is going to be the new snowy region of Dragonspine. Players can expect sub-zero temperatures along with the usual set of puzzles and quests along with new mechanics. There is a new Freeze mechanic (not to be confused with Frozen mechanic) which will basically affect your character while exploring the new cold region. You need to keep an eye on the Freeze meter, cause once it is too low, you are slowly going to start losing health. Expect some items and moves that could help your character to counter the cold weather.

There are also two new characters that will be added with the new update- Albedo and Ganyu. Albedo is a sword-wielding Geo element character with a five-star rating. Ganyu is also a five-star character who is a Cryo fighter that uses a bow.

Of course, there are a bunch of new events that will be arriving with the new 1.2 update including “The Chalk Prince and the Dragon” and “Stellar Reunion” along with a variety of quests. You can go through the entire list of events and quests by going through the release notes shared by miHoYo.

There are some new weapons as well, including Summit Shaper which is a 5-Star sword, Festering Desire a 4-Star sword, Snow-Tombed Starsilver a 4-Star claymore, Dragonspine Spear a 4-Star polearm, and Frostbearer which is a 4-Star catalyst.

You can get the Festering Desire sword by taking part in “The Chalk Prince and the Dragon” event. By completing corresponding quests in Dragonspine, you can obtain the Snow-Tombed Starsilver and Dragonspine Spear and their forging methods; make an offering to the Frostbearing Tree to obtain the forging blueprint for Frostbearer. There are also two new artifacts- Blizzard Strayer and Heart of Depth both of which will be available by challenging the new Domain of Blessing “Peak of Vindagnyr.”

LineageOS 17.1 adds support for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (WiFi), Moto Z3 Play, and Google Nexus 7 2013

After bringing LineageOS 17.1 for the OnePlus 5/5T, Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (WiFi), and Fairphone 3 last month, the team LineageOS has now added three new smartphones to the official LineageOS 17.1 roster. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (WiFi), Moto Z3 Play, and Google Nexus 7 2013 have received official LineageOS 17.1 support based on Android 10.

If you’re interested, head over to the WiKi page for your respective device from the below table and click on the “Get the builds here” to download the latest nightly build and recovery image. At the time of writing this article, the builds for the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (WiFi) aren’t live yet but should be up soon.

Make sure you read through the step-by-step installation instructions to avoid running into bootloop or other issues. And also, don’t forget to take a full backup of your important data beforehand. Nexus 7 2013 owners do note that you will have to repartition your storage in order to successfully boot the ROM. Check out this guide from XDA Senior Member Clamor to learn how to do that.

Whether your OEM has ceased software support or you’re not content with the software experience, LineageOS provides an effective way to lease a new life to your device and experience a clutter-free software experience. The LineageOS 17.1 is the latest officially supported version, but the work is already underway on LineageOS 18, which will be based on Android 11. In fact, it’s already available in an unofficial form for a handful of devices, including the F(x)tec Pro1, OnePlus 8T, Google Pixel 4a, and Samsung Galaxy S II. If you’ve got a Project Treble compatible device, there’s also an experimental GSI of LineageOS 18.0 based on Android 11.

OnePlus Nord SE expected to be a Special Edition in partnership with designer Joshua Vides

OnePlus is reportedly working on a special edition version of its popular mid-ranger — the OnePlus Nord. The upcoming device, called the OnePlus Nord SE, is being developed in partnership with designer Joshua Vides, who is known for his collaborations with Italian luxury fashion brand Fendi.

According to a recent report from phoneArena, the OnePlus Nord SE will only feature a few aesthetic changes, like a redesigned back panel and some custom wallpapers. The report claims that the device will, most likely, offer the same hardware specifications as the original OnePlus Nord, including a 6.4-inch 90Hz AMOLED display, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765G SoC, a quad-camera setup on the back, dual-front facing cameras, and a 4,115mAh battery with 30W fast charging support. However, this goes against a previous leak from Android Central, which claimed that the OnePlus Nord SE would feature improved specs, a larger 4,500mAh battery, and support for 65W fast charging.

While OnePlus is yet to reveal any details about this partnership with Joshua Vides, renowned leaker Max Jambor has corroborated the partnership in a recent tweet. He has also shared an image of what may be the color scheme of the special edition device. As you can see in the attached tweet, the image shows a stylized OnePlus Logo in black on a white background with irregular black edges. This falls in line with Joshua Vides’ distinct style, as seen in the recent images on his Instagram profile.

The publication further adds that OnePlus may announce the OnePlus Nord SE in March next year, alongside its upcoming flagship OnePlus 9 series. If that’s the case, we expect to see more detailed leaks of the special edition device in the coming months. We’ll update this post as soon as we learn more about the OnePlus Nord SE.

This Cyberpunk 2077 Mobile listing is such an obvious scam, we shouldn’t even have to warn you

From being one of the most hyped games of 2020 to becoming one of the bigger disappointments, the chaos around Cyberpunk 2077 does not seem to end. There is now apparently a mobile version of the game that is luring users into installing malware on their Android devices.

As per reports, a threat actor is spreading fake installers for Cyberpunk 2077 that installs CoderWare ransomware. To spread the so-called Cyberpunk 2077 Mobile game, the threat actors are using websites that imitate the Google Play Store so they can trick users into installing the ransomware. As per Kaspersky malware analyst Tatyana Shishkova, the ransomware makes use of a hardcoded key, so a decryptor can be made to recover the lost files if any.

“RC4 algorithm with hardcoded key (in this example – “21983453453435435738912738921”) is used for encryption. That means that if you got your files encrypted by this #ransomware, it is possible to decrypt them without paying the ransom.”

Similar ransomware masquerading as a Cyberpunk 2077 game installer for Windows was spotted last month. According to Bleeping Computers, the Windows version included a python compiled executable file that would encrypt the target’s files and append the .DEMON extension to encrypted file’s names. There isn’t any info regarding the hardcoded key for the Windows variant at the moment.

We advise you not to install any suspicious apps or software that offer you games, Cyberpunk 2077 in this case, for free. The only way to play Cyberpunk 2077 on your mobile device is via cloud gaming services such as Google Stadia or NVIDIA GeForce Now, or via local streaming solutions such as PS Remote Play. As for other platforms, the game is available for Xbox and PlayStation consoles, which can be purchased via the respective online stores or by getting the physical copies. For Windows, we advise that you buy the game from Steam or directly head to CD Projekt Red’s website.

Cyberpunk 2077 has been a huge disappointment for a large section of gamers, especially for owners of last-gen consoles like the Sony PS4 and Xbox One X and Xbox One S, as the game is reportedly not optimized for them. Microsoft and Sony both have started offering refunds to users who purchased the game and game developer CD Projekt Red is now rushing to bring new updates to iron out the bugs. If you’re looking to enjoy the game, try it out on a new console or a good gaming computer, or through Stadia. And just stay away from the obvious ransomwares.
