Huawei Officially Announces the Kirin 950 SoC

In Beijing, China today, Huawei finally unveiled their in-house Kirin 950 system on a chip. The Kirin 950 is an octa-core SoC built upon a 16nm process and using ARM’s big.LITTLE architecture. The four high-power cores are Cortex-A72s clocked at 2.53GHz and the four low-power cores are Cortex-A53s clocked at 1.8GHz. These CPUs are paired with the Mali-T880MP4 GPU and preliminary AnTuTu benchmarks show a score of 82,945.

Google Hopes to Reboot the Android One Initiative, Starting with India

A new report suggests that Google is hoping to give the Android One project a revival and that India will be the first country on the list. Citing sources ‘familiar with the matter’, it is believed that Google has learned what worked and what didn’t work with their first attempt and they will let OEMs have ‘more freedom’ to choose things like components and price.

BlackBerry Commits to Monthly Security Updates for the PRIV

Just like Samsung and LG did a few months ago, BlackBerry has just announced that they will be pushing out monthly security updates for the upcoming Android-powered PRIV smartphone. These security patches are sent to OEMs by Google and then companies have a month before they are released to the public. This is very helpful because all OEMs have to do is prepare the updates.

Qualcomm Q3 Financial Report Surpasses Analyst Estimations

This week we had another mobile company present their financial report for the third quarter of 2015 and it was Qualcomm. Analysts were expecting the company to bring in 5.2 billion in revenue but they beat that with 5.5 billion. This is down from last year’s $7.1 billion in the same quarter and is likely due to Samsung choosing to avoid the Snapdragon 810.
