Nexus 6P Benchmark Shows a Significant Increase of Encryption Performance

Some were worried about the Nexus 6P’s encryption performance ever since it was revealed that it was going to use ‘software-accelerated encryption’ instead of offloading this to the hardware. This is concerning since last year’s Nexus 6 showed a decrease in performance with encryption enabled. A benchmark comparison between the Nexus 6 and 6P shows significant improvements to AES and SHA-1 with a small decrease for SHA-2.

Android Devices are Vulnerable to a New LTE Security Flaw

Android security issues are making headlines again and these can lead to “eavesdropping, data spoofing, and over-billing”. The report says, Android doesn’t have appropriate permissions for current LTE networks (on AT&T and Verizon) and that the “CALL_PHONE permission can be overruled with only the INTERNET permission by directly sending SIP/IP packets”. This can result in a call being made without providing any feedback to the user.

Google Adds Support for More Languages and Illustrations in the New Calendar Update

Google has been adding a lot of polish to the Android experience and we are seeing this today in an update to the Calendar application. Not only have they added over a dozen additional illustrations that will automatically be set when you add an event, but the feature will also work in 30 languages including Dutch, Finnish, Catalan, Korean and more.
