The HONOR MagicWatch 2 Vs. Galaxy Watch Active2

What it comes to fitness-focused smartwatches, we are seeing some of the best options on the market in 2020. Smartwatches are more useful and more powerful than ever. Some of the best watches are coming from Samsung and HONOR. Samsung recently launched the Galaxy Watch Active2 which is one of the more popular solutions for fitness enthusiasts. However, HONOR has introduced the MagicWatch 2 which might just be the new king of smartwatches. See how the Honor MagicWatch 2 beats the Galaxy Watch Active2.

High Resolution AMOLED Display

The Galaxy Active2 is fitted with a 360x360p resolution display. This is standard with most watches, and while it has acceptable clarity, the HONOR MagicWatch 2 has a noticeably better display. With a higher 454x454p resolution, the AMOLED display with the MagicWatch 2 is significantly sharper.

Colors and contrast look accurate on this watch. It’s very important to be able to see the information you need, at a glance. HONOR does this very well by implementing this high quality display. It’s much easier to see finer details of the watchfaces with more info fit into the screen. With a pixel density of 326ppi, the MagicWatch 2 has the superior display.

Fitness Features

Some of the features included in the HONOR MagicWatch 2 are 15 different goal-based fitness modes. These modes cover a huge selection of outdoor and indoor activities, with unique monitoring systems for each one.

The included workout modes are:

  • Outdoor run
  • Indoor run
  • Outdoor walk
  • Indoor walk
  • Outdoor cycle
  • Indoor cycle
  • Pool swim
  • Open water
  • Climb
  • Hike
  • Trail run
  • Triathlon
  • Elliptical
  • Rower
  • Other

Any of the workouts that include moving around outside, take advantage of the dual GPS connectivity integrated into the watch. This results in accurately tracked workouts when your running or biking. The HUAWEI Health app keeps track of all of your outdoor workout GPS data so you can go back and review your activities in Google Maps. The inclusion of dual-GPS also improves the tracking of your speed and altitude. A single GPS can have trouble accurately tracking these data points, which makes the HONOR MagicWatch 2 a better solution for tracking your workouts.

Since the watch is water resistant up to 50 meters, you can track your various swimming workouts as well. There are workout modes for both pool and open water swimming. HUAWEI has developed “TruSeen 3.5” which is a feature that helps you better understand your swim performance. This is done by accurately measuring your heart rate including SWOLF, distance, calories, and speed. For swimming activities, the HONOR MagicWatch 2 is a fantastic companion.

While the Galaxy Watch Active2 also has an extensive list of fitness-related features, it’s the ease of use and the large number of specific workouts that make the HONOR MagicWatch 2 difficult to beat.

14-Day Battery Life

The Kirin A1 is a super powerful and efficient chipset. The watch performs flawlessly at all times, while only sipping away at the battery. The battery will last you a solid 14 days of use before needing to recharge. This is particularly useful in situations like camping, vacations, or any activity that will keep you away for your charger for days at a time. With a 455mAh battery capacity, the MagicWatch 2 will last about 14 days of active usage. The Samsung Galaxy Watch Active2 lasts a fraction of this time, due to the lower 340mAh battery and a heavier software system, which is Tizen wearable OS 4.0. Our tests have the Galaxy Watch Active2 lasting a maximum of 3 days with AOD (Always On Display) disabled, and only two days when it’s enabled.
