I don't take credit for this, i am just giving a guide on how i was able to gain root and recovery on the Sprint Note 4 with Lollipop.
Let me start by saying i was running the Hybrid-X series rom. Here were my steps to upgrade to Lollipop and keep all my data.
1. Flash the stock rom tar found here:

2. Once you reboot, run system update and you will download and install Lollipop. When it installs and reboots, you should still have all your data and apps.
Once in lollipop, i followed our old root method which does work for lollipop found here:

Now, to get recovery, download an app called flashify from the play store. Download the following file:
http://ift.tt/1A0o99h
Once you have both on your phone, open flashify, select recovery image and hit Yup! and then reboot. Your phone should reboot into TWRP.
At this point you will have all your data, root, and recovery. Enjoy
